As has become customary, it was an honour to attend the Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service at The Cenotaph, Myrtle Park, Bingley on behalf of the Murphy’s Army Purple Poppy team. One of our purple poppy wreaths was laid by our volunteer, Anita Robinson. An extremely proud and poignant moment….

Perhaps you know that these purple poppies are hand made. But we wonder if you know just how much time is spent preparing them… the knitting or crocheting… adding pins for the ‘human’ poppies, Velcro for the animal ones… bagging… counting into boxes for our ambassadors and outlets… packing and posting for the online sales Hours upon hours (upon hours!) of work, and every minute given freely
The purple poppy is a symbol of remembrance for animals lost in Service but was little known until Murphy’s Army launched our Purple Poppy Campaign back in 2016. We felt that it was only right that the animals should be remembered, alongside their human counterparts, and thus our journey to inform and educate began. We remember not only the animals lost, but pay tribute to those who serve us today – working alongside our Emergency Services, in the Military, Prisons and Border Forces – keeping us safe in so many different ways…

We already know what incredible work they do taking care of former serving horses in their retirement, from all areas of public duty, and of course the many rescue horses and ponies they look after so kindly too ????????
